The Mission is a marvelous hodge podge of old and new school - cafes, papuserias, music venues, mercados, produce stands, rickety victorian homes and sleek modern apartments. Gentrification during the dot com boom definitely altered the flavor of this area that was originally settled by Spanish Mexican ranchos; their names surface, througout the surrounds - Guerreros, Noes, and Valencianos, for instance.
