Roller Skating in San Francisco

Roller Skating in San Francisco

Rollerblading may have waned in San Francisco, but roller SKATING and DANCING are on the upswing.  Friends of Scanfrancisco have recently been seen, tieing on skates and rolling into Golden Gate Park on Sunday afternoons, where skaters of all ablities come to show off and improve their moves, in a giant paved circle near 6th and JFK.  As well, folks gather there the same day, to head out on a loop around Lake Merced, or slalom on a staged course.  Another group of skaters, called the Midnight Rollers, meets at the Embarcadero and Market around 9pm on Friday nights, to hit the darkened city streets.  Bring your reflective vests!!!

A search on the web, for other bits of info on SF skating revealed this:

Rollerdance.com

Richard H. Humphrey, professional skater and roller disco wizard, gives rollerdancing lessons in his Potrero Hill studio.  He's often found at the Sunday Skate in Golden Gate Park, and was recently given HUGE kudos from a friend, for being super generous with his skate purchasing advice (it led to the purchase of the skates shown in the accompanying photo).

C.O.R.A. stands for the California Outdoor Rollerskating Association, which promotes the sport of outdoor rollerskating in California. C.O.R.A. keeps and maintains an accurate ranking of California skaters and tracks records for roller speed, jumping, and dancing. If that's not enough, they also collect used skates to be repaired and given to underprivileged children during the Winter holidays.
